    About our Darren England news

Latest news on Darren England, a Premier League football referee born on 23 December 1985. He was promoted to the status of a Premier League referee in August 2020, and in December 2021, he was added to the 2022 FIFA List of International Match Officials. Before his promotion, England had been a Select Group 2 referee since 2017 and served as a Premier League assistant referee between 2012 and 2015.

He has also officiated in various other competitions, including the UEFA Champions League Qualifying, UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifiers, Championship, and FA Youth Cup.

On 30 September 2023, England was serving as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during a Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. During the match, a goal by Liverpool's Luis Diaz was ruled offside by the linesman, a decision which England and his colleagues in VAR did not question, despite it being made unusually quickly with no lines being drawn. Following the match, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) admitted to a "significant human error" in failing to intervene on the offside decision. Due to this error, England and assistant VAR Dan Cook were dropped for their subsequent Premier League fixtures.
