    About our Maiduguri news

Latest news on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. It is also the largest city in the state. The city is located on the eastern edge of the Borno Plain, near the Mandara Mountains. Maiduguri has a population of 1,144,000 (2016 estimate). The city experiences a hot semi-arid climate with a long dry season.

Maiduguri was founded in the late 16th century by the Bornu Empire. The city became an important trading centre for kola nuts, cowrie shells, and slaves. It also became a key centre of Islamic learning. In the 19th century, Maiduguri was conquered by the Fulani Empire. The city was later annexed by the British Empire.

Since the 1960s, Maiduguri has been the site of several rebel insurgencies. The most recent and ongoing insurgency is being waged by the Boko Haram terrorist group. The insurgency has caused widespread damage to the city and has displaced many of its residents.
