    Latest news on Mykolaiv, also known as Nikolaev, is a city located in southern Ukraine. The city is situated on the right bank of the Ingul River, in the Mykolaiv Oblast. As of the 2001 Ukrainian census, the city has a population of 493,000 people. The city is an important industrial centre and seaport. Mykolaiv's industries include shipbuilding, food processing, and machine building. The city is also home to a number of universities and research institutes.

    Mykolaiv was founded in 1789 by the Russian Empress Catherine the Great. The city was named after Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors.
